Halla Saari — "Frost Island" in Finnish — was a working salt-trading harbour for two centuries before the Lindqvist-Korhonen shipping family converted its stone warehouse into a members' card room in 1987. What began as sixteen tables in a single restored building has grown, expansion by expansion, into the fourteen-hectare resort that stands today: a casino floor of granite and glass, four restaurants built around Baltic and Arctic ingredients, and suites designed specifically to frame the northern lights.
Every addition to Halla Saari has answered to the same brief the founders set in 1987: build nothing that could exist anywhere else. The 2005 glass gaming pavilions were engineered to withstand archipelago winters while remaining almost invisible from the water by day; the 2019 Aurora Suites wing was oriented, room by room, using twelve years of aurora-visibility data gathered by the resort's own meteorologist.
Today Halla Saari welcomes guests from across the Nordic countries, continental Europe, the United Kingdom and further afield, arriving by private launch from Parainen harbour or by helicopter transfer from Helsinki-Vantaa, to a resort that still answers, every night, to the sea around it.

The Halla Saari casino floor spans two levels beneath a glass ceiling engineered for aurora viewing: a main gaming hall of table games and slots, and a discreet upper tier of private salons for higher-limit and invitation-only play.
Forty-two tables occupy the main hall, staffed by croupiers trained at our own dealer academy in Turku. Nordic Blackjack, European Roulette, Baccarat, Three Card Poker and Ultimate Texas Hold'em run continuously from late afternoon until dawn, alongside a dedicated Craps pit and a Sic Bo table drawing on the resort's growing base of Asian and international guests.
The Fjord Poker Room hosts daily cash games from €1/€2 no-limit up to €25/€50 pot-limit Omaha, and is the home of the annual Nordic Poker Masters, a four-day festival each October that has become the region's most closely watched live poker event.

640 slot and electronic table-game machines occupy the main hall's northern wing, from penny denominations to high-limit rooms reserved for Aurora Circle members. Every machine on the floor is linked to the Northern Lights Jackpot, a progressive prize pool shared across the Halla Saari gaming network that has paid out seven figures on three occasions since 2018.
Electronic roulette, baccarat and multi-hand blackjack terminals sit alongside traditional reel slots for guests who prefer a quieter pace, with denominations from €0.10 to €500 per spin available across the floor.
Slot & electronic gaming wing
The Aurora Circle is The Aurora Circle private membership tier, accessible by invitation or by qualifying play, granting access to four glass-walled gaming salons on the upper tier of the casino floor, each named for a phase of the northern lights: Corona, Veil, Pillar and Ribbon.
Members are assigned a dedicated gaming host for the length of their stay, arranged private transfer by launch or helicopter from Helsinki-Vantaa, and priority reservation across all four resort restaurants. Table limits within the Aurora Circle salons are set individually with the casino floor manager and routinely extend well beyond the limits published for the main hall.
Membership also includes access to the members-only Frost & Ember Spa suite, a private cinema screening room, and a dedicated cellar within Salt & Smoke reserved exclusively for Aurora Circle guests and their parties.
Each of Horizon Marketing's restaurants draws directly from the waters and forests around Halla Saari, from the tasting counter at Lumi to the late-night cellar at Salt & Smoke.
Lumi — New Nordic tasting room
Lumi ("snow") is Halla Saari's fourteen-seat tasting counter, built around a single nightly menu that changes with the archipelago's seasons. Expect Arctic char cured in juniper, slow-roasted reindeer with cloudberry and smoked bone marrow, and a dessert course built entirely from birch, sea buckthorn and hand-harvested Nordic honey.
Salt & Smoke — steakhouse & whisky library
An open-fire steakhouse built around a two-hundred-bottle whisky library, Salt & Smoke serves dry-aged Nordic beef, whole roasted Baltic turbot, and a charcuterie programme cured on-site in the resort's own salt cellar, the same cellar that gave Halla Saari its trading history.
Kaiku — Nordic-Japanese sushi bar
Kaiku ("echo") pairs a traditional Edomae sushi counter with Baltic and Arctic fish rarely seen in Japanese cuisine: cured herring nigiri, smoked whitefish temaki, and a Baltic sprat omakase built around the resort's own smokehouse. A late-night menu runs until 2am for guests coming off the casino floor.

Above the restaurants, the Revontuli Bar (named for revontulet, the Finnish word for the northern lights) serves cocktails built around Nordic botanicals — sea buckthorn, birch sap, and Arctic bramble — until the last table on the casino floor closes for the night.

The 900-seat Glacier Theatre, its interior carved to resemble a slow-moving ice cave, hosts the resort's resident production, Revontuli: A Nordic Spectacle, an aerial and acrobatic show staged nightly and built entirely around the physics of the northern lights.
Beyond the theatre, the resort's live music lounge hosts Nordic jazz and chamber ensembles most evenings, while October's Nordic Poker Masters brings a four-day live-streamed final table to a temporary stage built on the casino floor itself, drawing professional players from across Europe.
The Glacier Theatre, 900 seats
Built around contrast therapy in the true Nordic tradition, the Frost & Ember Spa pairs three wood-fired saunas with a granite-cut plunge pool fed directly by the archipelago's cold water, along with a geothermal-style heated pool for guests seeking a gentler routine.
Treatments draw on Nordic ingredients throughout: birch-tar body scrubs, cloudberry facials, and a signature ninety-minute Halla Saari massage using warmed volcanic stones sourced from Iceland. The spa's relaxation room looks directly out over the channel where the aurora is most reliably visible on clear winter nights.
